Who we are

Formerly Head Coach of a leading UK swimming club, I coached the club’s age group and masters swimmers, organised the club’s Learn-to-Swim scheme, teaching both beginners and improvers myself, and established the swimming coaching set-up for the city’s triathlon club.

During this time, I coached numerous national finalists, a national masters medallist and significantly improved the swimming technique of numerous triathletes.

Much of my approach as a club coach was based on the methodology of Bill Boomer, a legendary american Olympic coach on whose principles Terry Laughlin built 'Total Immersion'. The principles are as valid for age group swimmers as they are for triathletes and beginners.

These principles are quite simple and obvious;
  • if a swimmer is balanced, then swimming becomes easier and more efficient;

  • if the swimmer has good technique, then power is exerted more efficiently;

  • if power is exerted efficiently, then the swimmer will swim faster;

  • once the swimmer has an “effective design”, then you can start to build a bigger engine (i.e. train the swimmer more effectively).

    "Thank you for another wonderful stay. Both kids showed real improvement in all strokes but we were both amazed at the improvement in their backstroke. It is so much better for them to be able to concentrate fully on their technique without having to jostle for position in a lane full of other swimmers. As regular poolside spectators we both agree there is no better spot than beside your pool when the sun is shining. Till next year. As you read this we are already planning a third trip in 2008! See you soon."
